Tempest Toss'd
based on William Shakespeare's The Tempest
created and performed by Adrian Hughes, Jocelyn Hughes, Alberto Ierardi and Giorgio Vierda
Tossed about at sea, three mariners and a Miranda piece together the story of The Tempest. Themes of magic, forgiveness, colony, and the feminine are explored in this reworking of a much loved and oft-performed play. Combining text from The Tempest, Shakespearian song and sea shanties, this the debut of a production which is set to tour Europe from Spring 2026.
Each performance is followed by a Q&A session with the artists. Pre-performance resource materials will be shared to help prepare the students for and orient them to the show.
This is the third collaboration between THEATRE 63 and La Ribalta Teatro, and a third revisiting of a great work of the Bard. After sell-out performances of Waiting for Juliet in Pisa and throughout Tuscany in 2021-22, the two companies went on to create Hamlet: Double Bill in 2024. Winner of the ShakeSphere 2024 Prize, this production has since been invited by the European Shakespeare Festival Network to perform in United Kingdom, Germany, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, Poland, Spain, and Italy.
